Crossroads Bootcamp opened October of 2009. CrossFit on 18th became an official CrossFit affiliate in January of 2010. I remember back on those days not a single woman could do a pull up and most of those women thought a 95 pound deadlift was a huge weight that would make them “bulk up”. At the same time we didn’t have any men who could do a muscle up or deadlift over 400lbs. For those of you who remember those days you will totally agree that we have come a long way. Now in February of 2012 we have a gym full of...
read moreHoney…A Paleo Friendly Sweetener
At this point, you all know that you cannot use refined sugars when following the paleo lifestyle; this includes white and brown sugars and corn syrup. Those lovely refined sugars tend to get added to some foods you would not even imagine: breads, pastas, canned fruit and vegetables, sauces, and the list could go on. On a side note, I cannot stress enough that you should be checking the ingredients on EVERYTHING, because you never know what they are sneaking into foods. Marks Daily Apple had a great article on using honey and I thought that...

Here is a great sequence photographed by our very own Brett Pruitt. Congratulations Joe and let’s get some more of you in the muscle up...

I just completed the 21 Day Sugar Detox put together by Diane Sanfilippo of Balanced Bites. When I set out to do this at the beginning of the year, I got a lot of puzzled looks, questions of my sanity, and even someone who told me I couldn’t do it. No fake sugar and not much natural sugar…DONE! I decided to do it because for me, sticking to a definite plan is something I need in order to stay on track. Following Paleo and the occasional cheating gets me in trouble, because when I cheat, I really cheat, and then cheat some more and...

Hey Tina Sprinkle here. Here’s is the amazing story of Jeremy Collum. I got to know Jeremy when I was learning more about the Paleo lifestyle from Stephanie Provance, who is one of our trainers. Popular in the CrossFit community, the Paleo lifestyle was not only helping people lose weight and get lean, it was dramatically improving their athletic performance as well. I wanted to see what why and so, last August, I embarked on my own Paleo lifestyle, and 9 lbs and 13 inches later, I’ve never looked back. It’s not just...

When talking with people switching to Paleo, Zone, Primal, or clean eating, the biggest complaint is missing their beloved bread and pastas. Although there is no replacement for those carbs, here’s a quick list of simple swaps that I use almost daily for those dishes or ingredients that you are missing. Some things just don’t have a substitute or if they do you will be greatly disappointed. I have yet to find a replacement for pizza that compares to the real thing. However, I know I am making better decisions by skipping out on pizza all...

“Broad Time and Modal Domains” just got a little broader at CrossFit on 18th. For the very first time we will be hosting a strongman class to be followed by a strongman WOD. Most of us tend to prefer workouts that are balanced toward either strength or endurance but the CrossFit model is designed to prepare you for any physical challenge that comes your way. So if that challenge is running a long distance or lifting a bodyweight stone to your shoulder we need to be up to that challenge. As CrossFit continues to grow we find more...
read moreThoughts on Monday’s Fran
The first time I ever did Fran was at my CrossFit Level I certification a couple years ago. They called time at 10 minutes and I thought I did well since I was doing dead hang pullups and only had 5 pullups left. Ever since that day I have been trying to figure this WOD out and have remained remarkably unsuccessful. Regardless of my “strategy” I always feel like Fran won and I’m left totally trashed. I would say I feel like a failure if it weren’t for the great sense of satisfaction for finishing the WOD at...

Last Saturday’s assessment day had an amazing turnout of 40 people. We can’t wait to do this again every 2nd Saturday and track your progress. The following are excerpts from the Futurex.com website explaining your results. Our system is 1-2% accurate of underwater weight where calipers are up to 10 or more percent off usually on the low side. So even though some of you had what you thought were high readings they are the most accurate reading you have ever had unless you have been weighed in a tank. The number that seemed to...
