How Jeremy Lost 80lbs with CrossFit and a Paleo Lifestyle

Hey Tina Sprinkle here.  Here’s is the amazing story of Jeremy Collum.  I got to know Jeremy when I was learning more about the Paleo lifestyle from Stephanie Provance, who is one of our trainers. Popular in the CrossFit community, the Paleo lifestyle was not only helping people lose weight and get lean, it was dramatically improving their athletic performance as well. I wanted to see what why and so, last August, I embarked on my own Paleo lifestyle, and 9 lbs and 13 inches later, I’ve never looked back. It’s not just...

Paleo Food Substitutions

Paleo Food Substitutions

When talking with people switching to Paleo, Zone, Primal, or clean eating, the biggest complaint is missing their beloved bread and pastas. Although there is no replacement for those carbs, here’s a quick list of simple swaps that I use almost daily for those dishes or ingredients that you are missing. Some things just don’t have a substitute or if they do you will be greatly disappointed. I have yet to find a replacement for pizza that compares to the real thing. However, I know I am making better decisions by skipping out on pizza all...

Strongman Comes to CrossFit on 18th and it’s Not Just for Big Guys

Strongman Comes to CrossFit on 18th and it’s Not Just for Big Guys

“Broad Time and Modal Domains” just got a little broader at CrossFit on 18th. For the very first time we will be hosting a strongman class to be followed by a strongman WOD. Most of us tend to prefer workouts that are balanced toward either strength or endurance but the CrossFit model is designed to prepare you for any physical challenge that comes your way. So if that challenge is running a long distance or lifting a bodyweight stone to your shoulder we need to be up to that challenge. As CrossFit continues to grow we find more...

Thoughts on Monday’s Fran

Thoughts on Monday’s Fran

The first time I ever did Fran was at my CrossFit Level I certification a couple years ago.  They called time at 10 minutes and I thought I did well since I was doing dead hang pullups and only had 5 pullups left.  Ever since that day I have been trying to figure this WOD out and have remained remarkably unsuccessful.  Regardless of my “strategy” I always feel like Fran won and I’m left totally trashed.  I would say I feel like a failure if it weren’t for the great sense of satisfaction for finishing the WOD at...

Budgeting a Paleo Lifestyle

Budgeting a Paleo Lifestyle

One of the things I’ve heard about sticking to the Paleo lifestyle is that it is expensive. I can’t argue that a Totinos pizza and bottle of Coke is cheaper than an organic chicken breast and salad, but the long term health costs associated with eating frozen pizza and diet sodas will outweigh spending a few dollars more right now. But you will find that by eating healthier and cutting out Starbucks, ice cream, and the like you will have more money than you think you to buy real food. Each one of us has a budget for food and to...

What You Do This January Will Define All Of 2012

Every New Year brings excitement and for many a new set of goals.  Hopefully all of you have life, career and fitness goals for the new year.  If you don’t get busy because the Mayan calendar ends on December 21st this might be our last year ever!  Wether you believe that or not isn’t it a nice cue for us to act as if that is true.  In other words if this was your last year how would you want to live it? First goals must be measurable.  Simply saying I want to “kill the WOD” and get super lean isn’t...

Happy Paleo Holiday

Most of us are concerned (maybe) about making good food choices over the holidays so here’s a good choice from Stephanie. Make sure to mark your calendar for January 21 at 1pm for Stephanie’s Paleo nutrition workshop.  While a paleo diet is wonderful for weight and fat loss it’s actually an even better to optimize CrossFit and general athletic performance. Here’s a little treat for the Holidays, a paleo-friendly bread pudding recipe, tried by a few of you at the gym already! You won’t even know that it is gluten or...

A little bit about cheating!

A little bit about cheating!

Last week I discussed cravings, so this week what better of a topic than “cheating”. Several books and blogs I have read talk about having a few cheat meals per week or eating paleo 80/20…BUT what does this mean!?!?  For me, a cheat meal or a cheat treat helps to keep me sane and prevent me from boiling over and ruining the whole day devouring more sugar than one person can possible ingest. Stressing out over eating healthy 100% of the time can actually be detrimental to your nutrition, performance, and health. What the experts do...

Cravings!

Cravings!

I know several of you out there follow Paleo pretty strictly, and several of you out there follow Paleo when it’s convenient, you know who you are! And then there are the rest of you that dabble in it a bit, are curious, or think “there is no way I can do that”. Me? I go 80/20, well to be honest, most of the time, but I struggle when someone sitting across from me decided to order a mega plate of nachos or a plate of cheese fries!!! Seriously, how is a girl to turn that down!!!  I think this post will sing to most of our hearts,...
